The basics an insurer asks for first. No social insurance number — that belongs in their application, not on a website.

Beneficiary

Who receives the account if you die. If you are married or common-law, ask me about naming your spouse as successor holder instead — it keeps the account whole and tax-free.

Employment and finances

Approximate figures are fine. Insurers ask to meet know-your-client obligations, not to judge them.

Declarations

Every Canadian insurer asks these. Answering yes is not a problem — it means extra paperwork, which is better done now than at the meeting.

Anything else

Questions for the meeting, a second beneficiary and the split, an existing TFSA you want to transfer — anything at all.

Your documents

Photo ID and a void cheque cover most of it. Add proof of status if you are not a citizen. These are read by your browser and bundled into the package you download. They are never uploaded.
